Final Fantasy 8 Remake guru urged to dump girlfriend to focus on the game
Video game remakes are all the rage these days. The Resident Evil franchise keeps coming back with new mutations like its own creatures, and there are plenty of other examples.
One of the most famous is Final Fantasy 7, which has been remade in three parts, the second of which arrived earlier this year. Inspired by their love for the eighth game, which originally launched in 1999, one enterprising solo developer has begun working to rebuild the game themselves.
With the project seemingly taking a lot of time, some fans have joked that it's time to cut out distractions like a girlfriend and a full-time job.
Fan is recreating Final Fantasy 8 but not quickly enough
Over on Facebook, series fan Than Poun shared a couple of screenshots of the work they've done so far.
“Modelling is proceeding, many decisions had to be taken. Basic blueprints of buildings are being created.,” they explained.
“These creations will get modified in the final stage and everything will become even rounder. Recreating Balamb Town in 3D is an extremely creative and rewarding process because the original game lets you fantasise a lot about how these places would look like in 3D without showing you everything.”
“I really hope I find more time for this beautiful project because my full-time job as a civil-structural engineer and my girlfriend demands a lot of time,” they added.
One commenter said “I think it's in the best interest of all of us that you quit your job and your girlfriend to focus on this full-time,” while another said, “I hope this makes you rich!”.
One fan said “How did you fall into this? I don't have a girlfriend currently so I good portion of my time can be spent learning this,” as Poun has clearly inspired like-minded fans.
Still, with rumours swirling about other official Final Fantasy Remake projects, it'll be interesting to see if Than Poun continues their work.
